Killer Icicles and Sleeping Angels....

Happy New Year!

As one of my New Year's resolutions, I've decided to phase out my MySpace page (come on, folks...MySpace at almost 30??? I'm a little too old to be on the "friends list" of 15, 16, and 17 year olds) and more importantly, keep my friends and family back East a little better informed of the Dudley family goings-on in Japanland. I'm hoping that this blog will keep you all happily satisfied with our many dramatic and adventurous tales about our weekly runs to the sushi-go-round, the pleasures of the AFN network, and 9p.m. pajama parties with little Noah. To mix things up a bit, we're hoping to make it to China in April and Australia/New Zealand in September before the Navy sends us off to our next duty station. So, I should hopefully have at least a few interesting moments to blog about. :)

As I document the last year of our residency in Japan, I hope it captures some of the unique, fun-filled, awe-inspiring moments of Chris, Amanda, and Noah Dudley. Last night--New Year's Eve--is a perfect example. While many of our friends were participating in an all-night beer pong tournament and other "drink 'til you puke" games as they counted down the new year, our last moments of 2007 outdoes them all. It went a little something like this:

Ten seconds until midnight a man is lying on the love seat having just slayed two bloody pirates as his knight, "HomeSlice," clamors aboard a ship in the midst of a 3-hour go at his newest PS3 game, "Oblivion." As blood curling yells emanate from the large television across the room, a little boy snores peacefully in the crook of his mother's arm as she nods in and out of sleep. Suddenly, she hears:

"Hey...hey honey....Amanda, wake up!"

(more yelling and pinging as the husband shoots poison-laced arrows into an oncoming

group of bad guys)

"Honey?!?" (ping, ping...THUMP...Arrrghhhh!!!!)

(She wakes up) "Whhhaattt???"

"It's Midnight...Happy New Year!" (Whooosh...ping....) Y-E-S!!!

"Oh, yeah...Happy New Year...."

On a side note: I stepped out of my house this morning to take the pooch to go potty, and I fortunately looked up to note a rather large, menacing-looking foot long icicle. It was poised, suspended just above our patio just ready to dive into the skull of an unsuspecting victim below. Well, I put the smack-down on said icicle...knocking it from its perch above the door and stomping it to bits. Well...until it turned to a big puddle of water, anyway. ;) As Noah lay sleeping inside, his mommy was outdoors in her pink and white lacey pajamas killing deadly icicles and scooping up mounds of smelly doggy poop...Female Warrior Extraordinnaire!!!
Love to all,
Amanda
